One of my favorite ways to change a surface is to use a pretty contact paper. When I saw this one for just five dollars, I knew I couldn't pass it up. I love the impermanence and simplicity of it. I've used this same pattern for various different purposes (including this one from a previous blog post) and I haven't been disappointed. So, I thought it'd be fun to customize a light switch for my bedroom in a new house I'll be moving into next weekend. Here's how I did it...enjoy!
Step 1: Roughly trace and cut a rectangle of contact paper that will fit the light switch plate
*Tip: Overestimate the size of this
Step 2: Attach the contact paper to the surface and carefully smooth out all wrinkles
*Tip: Start in the middle and work your way out
Step 3: Gently fold the edges over the plastic plate
Step 4: Using an exacto knife, cut out the rectangular slot for the switch
Step 5: Secure the clear cover to the bottom plate (these should click together)
